The reservoir growth and pruning/tuning need to be possible at scale without impossible manual configuration burden. Eventually, this is achievable for any desired architecture by using machine-driven optimization of parameters, but initially most of that can be avoided by focusing on relatively simple region-types, such as autoassociative memory.
